Flying Pickle Voice Coaching is the creation of Sam and Georgie Devereaux. They founded the company because they believe in the transformative power of the arts.

Sam has worked as an actor, voice over artist, and voice coach since 2004. Georgie has worked as a stage manager, chief electrician, and production manager since 1998. Together, they have staged critically acclaimed theatre shows and helped to raise money for charities including the Down's Syndrome Association and 21&Co. Sam and Georgie are also married and are parents to two remarkable children, one of whom has Down's syndrome.

Sam and Georgie both believe strongly that training in the arts is an essential part of life. Whether you are an actor, singer, voice over, or someone working in business or education you can benefit from learning more about your voice. And if you are someone who is merely curious about your voice and want to learn more about it, Flying Pickle Voice Coaching can help you on your journey.

As parents of a SEND child, Sam and Georgie are also passionate about the transformative power of voice training for people living with autism, Down's syndrome, ADHD, PDA, and other forms of Neuro Divergence.

Sam Devereaux is a versatile voice coach and acting teacher with more 20 years of professional experience.

Sam graduated from Arts Educational Schools in 2004 with a BA(Hons) Degree in Acting. Within 3 months of graduating Sam was asked to return to ArtsEd to teach voice and acting to the school's sixth form students. Ever since, Sam has worked in the theatre and voice over industries as both a performing artist and voice coach.

As a voice over, Sam has performed in award winning animation and BBC radio drama. He has also narrated over 100 audiobooks for major publishers including: Audible, Penguin Random House and Harper Audio. Currently, Sam teaches voice and acting technique at The Rose Theatre in Kingston-Upon-Thames and as a freelance voice coach for Coombe Boys School in New Malden.

Sam firmly believes in a three dimensional approach to voice use. It is vital to understand the mechanics of the voice so that you may creatively use the SHAPE and PITCH of your voice to create engaging performance. It is also essential to understand the EFFORT that you apply when using your voice so you can express your ideas creatively and effectively.

Georgie Devereaux is an experienced stage manager and SEND workshop leader with years of West End experience.

Georgie graduated in Stage Management from ALRA in 1998. Upon graduation she began to work prolifically on productions around the UK. In 2005 she joined Delfont Mackintosh Theatres and made the transition to technical theatre. Starting at the Novello Theatre in 2005, Georgie rose to the position of Chief Electrician at The Noel Coward Theatre in 2009. At the time, Georgie was one of only three female Chief Electricians in the West End.

After giving birth to her children, Georgie went to work for ETC where she co-ordinated the supply and repair of bespoke lighting equipment. After her daughter's diagnosis, Georgie retrained as an SEN Teaching Assistant and went to work at her local SEND school, and at Yorda Adventures. She also became a trustee of 21&Co and co-founded their hugely successful summer story club.

As her children have grown so Georgie has come full circle and returned to the Theatre. She is now the Deputy Head of Production at The Rose Theatre in Kingston-Upon-Thames. In addition to her regular duties she is also involved with supporting SEND provision at the theatre's Learning and Participation Department.

Why is this company called Flying Pickle Voice Coaching? Well, Flying Pickle is not a concept or a whimsical idea. The Flying Pickle is a real person.

The Flying Pickle is Sam and Georgie's daughter, Leia. She was born with Trisomy 21, better known as Down's Syndrome. Contrary to some popular conceptions about her diagnosis, Leia does not suffer with Down's Syndrome. It is not a disease; it is part of who she is. But it is not her defining characteristic. Her defining characteristics are empathy, humour, compassion, and a fierce determination to succeed at whatever she attempts.

In other words, Leia is an inspiration. That's why, when she was a baby, her nickname of Pickle grew into her being known as the Flying Pickle. When Sam and Georgie created Flying Pickle Voice Coaching in 2021 they wanted to create a company that was inspired by their daughter. A company that teaches voice, acting, and public speaking technique with compassion, humour and empathy. A place where all students are welcome regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, or additional needs.

Flying Pickle Voice Coaching is a friend and ally to anyone who wants to learn to use their voice more expressively and confidently. Regardless of where they come from or what they know. We welcome everyone and judge no one. Just like Leia, the real Flying Pickle.
